Women’s Health Physiotherapy

Women’s Health Physiotherapy is an umbrella term for all those issues that specifically affect women throughout their lives from starting puberty and perhaps experiencing endometriosis, to ante and postnatal issues (for example: pubic symphysis disorder or pelvic prolapse) right through to menopause and the older woman.

As any woman will know, Physiotherapists specialising in female health are few and far between and finding one as highly qualified as Mariola, even harder.

We know that it is a big step to ask for help with personal issues, but rest assured that within minutes of meeting Mariola, you will feel totally at ease, encouraged by her kindness and empathy, but also that feeling you are in the care of someone who really knows their specialist area.

What will the first womenโ€™s health physio visit involve?

A detailed medical history will be taken to help us decide what the nature of your problem might be. An initial assessment might involve an internal examination (only with your consent) where your pelvic floor muscle tone, strength and endurance will be assessed. This is an important part of your examination and necessary in identifying the control of your pelvic floor muscles. ย Please, speak with your women`s health physio if you do not feel comfortable with this examination or if you would like to have somebody present with you. You are free to withdraw your consent. Please, note that I would not do internal examinations within a minimum of 6 weeks post-partum or post-surgery. Internal examinations can be done in the early and late stages of the menstrual period.ย At the first visit, I might also examine your abdominal muscles, spine, hips and pelvis. Based on all the information gathered, a management plan will be discussed with you.

If any of the issues listed below are causing you concern, and you would like some help to make your life easier and more enjoyable, don’t delay, make a booking or send Mariola an email to find out more. Don’t suffer in silence (especially when you don’t need to).
