Sacroiliac Joint (SIJ)
Sacroiliac Joint (SIJ) – the SIJ is located where the bottom of the spine meets the pelvis. As it bears the weight and stress of the upper body, it is susceptible to injury. You may experience pain in the back of the hips, groin or thighs, or stiffness and a burning sensation in the pelvis. Pain usually feels worse with standing/walking and improves when lying down.
Treatment may include various stretching and stabilising exercises, manual therapy and a sacroiliac belt, which wraps around the hips to provide SIJ stability.
