Many expecting mothers may experience back pain because the ligaments supporting the pelvis and lower back become more lax and surrounding muscles weaken. Pregnancy causes an increase in hormones, change in center of gravity, weight gain, poor posture and stress, all of which may cause pain.
Treatment includes manual therapy, myofascial release, improving posture and lifting techniques, joint alignment, exercises to increase physical endurance and muscle strength in the hips, abdomen, back, and pelvic floor, flexibility, TENS to relieve pain and pelvic support belts.
