Facet joint jamming
Facet Joint Jamming – occurs when the joints in the spine become stuck, stiff or inflamed, which causes back pain and prevents spinal movement. Pain from this condition is usually worsened when extending or leaning backwards. It may be caused by acute or chronic trauma from lifting, twisting, bending, sports, and conditions such as degenerative arthritis.
Treatment can consist of manual therapy to reduce facet compression and improve joint mobility, manual joint mobilizations, stretching and core strengthening exercises, massage, and modalities such as ultrasound to reduce pain.
