Iliotibial Band (ITB)

The IT Band is a group of fibers that run from the outside of your hip along your leg to the shin bone. Muscles of the hip joint attach to it and it helps with their coordination as well as knee stabilization. IT Band syndrome can occur from overuse and is common in runners. You may experience knee pain that radiates up the leg especially with heel strike during walking or running, and snapping or popping while bending your knee.

Treatment may include a running and gait analysis, orthotics, specific stretches to loosen tight structures, rest and ice and ultrasound to assist the healing process.
