Bursitis
A bursa is a fluid filled sac purposeful located between tissues of the body to reduce friction and irritation between tissues. Repetitive pressure on a bursa or a direct impact on to a bursa such as a heavy fall can result in irritation and inflammation of the bursa, known as Bursitis. Bursitis is more likely to develop with age as we lose hydration of the bursa but is also seen in conjunction with other injuries that result in excessive loading onto the bursa.
The painful symptoms of bursitis can be relived with correct diagnosis, manual therapy, dry needling, acupuncture, a corrective mobility and strength program and education on posture and avoiding aggravating factors. In severe cases of Bursitis, anti-inflammatory injections have been known to assist the healing process.
