Acromioclavicular (AC) joint injury

The shoulder has one of the biggest ranges of motion of all the joints in the body. As a result it can be susceptible to a number of different injuries and painful pathologies.

Acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) – Sitting on top of the shoulder this joint is often the first point of contact with a fall or trauma to the shoulder joint. Rugby and Gaelic football players often experience injury to this joint due to the nature of their sport. However, any fall or trauma to the area can cause this joint to strain and become painful. Early identification of the grade of ACJ injury is key to getting quick and appropriate treatment.
