Pelvic Girdle Pain / Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD)
SPD is a condition in which there is excessive motion in a part of the pelvis and is most commonly associated with pregnancy and childbirth. SPD is associated with Pelvic Girdle Pain – the names are often used interchangeably. You may experience pain and instability within the pelvis and lower back, hips, groin, clicking or popping in the pelvis while walking, waddling gait, and difficulty standing or climbing stairs. Expecting mothers experiencing Pelvic Girdle Pain may have difficulty with weight bearing activities or with many daily activities.
Treatment may include core stability and pelvic floor exercises and pregnancy belts.
